Psalm 16:8
8I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
At a very young age, David was never shaken when he faced adversities. When he volunteered to fight the giant Goliath, not even the King Saul could believe him. Why?
Scholars approximated that David was just a regular 17 years old teenager. In the mind of ordinary person, how can he defeat a giant veteran warrior? Even the bravest soldier in Israel was scared of the muscular Goliath. And, David was not even a soldier. He had no experience in actual battle. However, David testified in 1 Samuel 17:34-37, 34David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, 35I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. 36Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
The average weight of an adult lion and bear can be more than 400 pounds. Imagine a 400 pounds 7-footer basketball player guarded by 175 pounds 6-footer player. That’s incredible. Nevertheless, the personal experience of David defeating a lion and a bear had prepared him and defeated the giant Goliath. He was not shaken.
God is wise. He smartly prepares us for life adventures. How? Difficult problems that we face are testing elements in proportion to the difficulty of the mission purposes that God had designed for us to accomplish. And the greater the challenge we may face and overcome, the glorious gladness we experience in the Lord.
Lord Jesus, bless me not to be shaken.
