Psalm 9:15
15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
It narrated in 2 Samuel 10:1-5, 1The king of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun succeeded him as king. 2David thought, “I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father. When David’s men came to the land of the Ammonites, 3 the Ammonite commanders said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think David is honoring your father by sending envoys to you to express sympathy? Hasn’t David sent them to you only to explore the city and spy it out and overthrow it?” 4 So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the buttocks, and sent them away.
When King David was told that his men were greatly humiliated by the Ammonites, he sent his entire army of fighting men attacked and defeated the Ammonites. Why did Hanun doubt the sincerity of David’s sympathy? As new king, Hanun may have wanted to impress his commanders by being tough and humiliated the Israelite envoys. His great mistake angered King David who was favored by God. King David credited his success to the Lord in 2 Samuel 22:31-35, 31 “As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. 32 For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? 33 It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. 34 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. 35 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Many individuals credit their success and accomplishments to their efforts or other sources. In comparison King David credited his success to the Lord.
Lord Jesus, help me depend on you in everything I do.
