The Energy to Learn and Teach
Colossians 1:28-29
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. 29 To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.
This past week, I attended a course for those who want to review music fundamentals to prepare for studying music in university. Before entering the classroom, I was self-conscious about possibly being one of the oldest students since I am in my late twenties, and I expected my classmates to be about ten years younger than I am. To my surprise, I discovered that our class of six people had a well-distributed age range, spanning from 17 to 60 years old. Despite our age differences, we shared the common desire to learn more about music fundamentals. Even though each class was about four hours long, we all put our energy into learning more about music and even taught each other ways to remember the things we learned.
Apostle Paul is a great example of putting all one’s energy into teaching people about Jesus. He wrote the most letters to churches and individuals in the New Testament, demonstrating his extensive knowledge and understanding of Jesus. As he mentioned in his letter to the Colossians, all the energy that he had in teaching about Christ came from the energy that Christ powerfully works in him.
The ability and the drive to teach others about Jesus come from Jesus. By teaching others about what we learn, we grow deeper in our knowledge about Christ and grow more mature in our relationship with Him.
May we remember to desire to learn more about God’s Word, and be reminded of 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” As servants of God, may we continue to learn to teach and to teach to learn about Him by the power of His Holy Spirit.
Lord, please teach me to learn more about You that I may disciple others.
