Psalm 9:13
14that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion, and there rejoice in your salvation.
Have you reflected upon the song, “Your love is extravagant,” by Christian Rock Band Casting Crowns? If you consider that the love of God is extravagant, rejoice and declare his praise in the lyrics: Your love is extravagant / Your friendship, is intimate / I feel like moving to the rhythm of your grace / Your fragrance is intoxicating, in our secret place / Your love is extravagant / Spread wide in the arms of Christ, is the love that covers sin / No greater love have I ever known / You considered me your friend / Capture my heart again.
According to respected dictionary, the term “Extravagant” means “lacking restraint in spending money or using resources; exceeding what is reasonable or appropriate; or absurd.” If the love of God is “Extravagant” does it mean he lacks restrain in expressing his love? Does God love beyond what is reasonable or appropriate? Grace of God is unmerited favor of God; it is free gift, and we do not deserve it. Apostle Paul testified in 2 Corinthians 12:9, 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
Grace of God is sufficient but “Casting Crown” feels that the love of God is extravagant. Probably because they sense excessive love of God that they don’t deserve, and their best definition of the love of God is extravagant. What one word would you describe the love of God for you? It declares in 1 Peter 2:9, 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light… What is your best expression to praise God as his chosen people and special possession?
Lord Jesus, bless me to praise you forever.
