 Psalm 17:13

13Rise up, Lord, confront them, bring   them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked.

King David defeated a lion, a bear and a giant Goliath. By his might, he could have easily defeated all his enemies. But before he confronted his enemies, he sought the Lord’s help. He prayed to be rescued from the wicked. Actually, David testified to King Saul in 1 Samuel 17: 36-37, 36Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.

An open-secret of King David on how he was always victorious over his enemies was his unwavering dependence on the Lord. He always asked God to give him victory over his enemies. We may not necessarily go to war and confront enemies, but there are concerns of life that may trouble us like enemies trying to provoke us. We can be victorious over problems even enemies when we rely upon the Lord for help.

It says in 2 Corinthians 1:10-11, 10God has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, 11as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Apostle Paul and his mission team overcame many ministry challenges because they depended on the Lord. Christ mandated us to testify for his transformational work in our life. And there will always be challenges that may try to discourage us from obeying him. But praise belongs to Christ our Lord. He has overcome death. He resurrected. What problem is more difficult than death that Christ cannot overcome? Nothing at all!

Lord Jesus, help me depend on you always.
