Psalm 17:5
5My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
How do you know when a young child is ready to walk on his own strength? Sensible parents hold their young child and let him stand on their palm to test how the child responds. If the child jumps up and down, they hold him to stand on the ground. If the child tries to step forward, he is ready to learn walking. Holding onto the child to take one step at a time should not be rushed. The child needs to rest for few minutes after few steps. Guide the child for few steps, then let him rest for few minutes, then have him take few steps again. At least three times a day should be enough to let muscles and bones of the child adjust to carrying his own weight. After a week or two of daily walking routine, add more steps and repetitions. It depends on how the child responds. This repetitive practice of walking a young child is like any other physical exercises that should be done in gradual progress.
Similarly, when we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we were born again like a child spiritually. Nobody is spiritually born mature overnight. The church offers Sunday School as learning time for believers to learn how to walk spiritually. And participation in church ministries is spiritual learning process to discover spiritual gift individually. When we practice our spiritual gift, we explore the joy of spiritual life in Christ. This like exploring which sport or career you may excel in. Michael Jordan excelled in basketball but he had average skill in baseball. Manny Pacquiao excelled in boxing but, he had average skill in basketball. Reflect on Romans 1:11-12, 11I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
When we use our spiritual gift, others are encouraged in their faith. Personally, we also sense gratification when we practice our spiritual gift.
Lord Jesus help me practice my spiritual gift
